frisbee

These pics are obviously a few weeks old, since the weather has turned HOT around here! Finally I get to show off my cute bare arms. Gotta get a picture of that! This semi-current update is just for my fans that check faithfully and have seen the same pictures day in and day out... That second picture is me clapping for Daddy as he picks up the frisbee I threw him. (You might have thought I was serious but that was a fib. I can't throw the frisbee quite that far yet. It usually lands just in front of my feet. But I'm working on it with the brand new floppy flyer frisbee I got from Grandma!)

Thanks for helping me read this book, Da Da!

Anywhere but in here

Elsa's great-grandpa is quite a crafty fellow. I was trying to explain to Elsa that her nice great-grandpa, the one with the black patch on his glasses, built her rocking horse for Mommy and Fun Aunt Holly when they were little. I think perhaps she still has no clue where the horsie came from, but she does request horsie rides everytime she wakes up, goes into her room, doesn't want to go to bed, etc. She banged her mouth (on purpose) into the horses wooden mane the first time she rode the horse. Twice. Now the first thing she does (as Mommy is urging Elsa to hold on to the handles with both hands) is pat the mane and pat her mouth and shake her head.

Doesn't this gaze out the window say "oh, how I wish I were out riding my horse in the yard?" (Hey Mom, do you think you could show this to Grandpa next time he's at your house? Note the other horse is watching with jealousy. Don't worry - without fail Elsa gets off the wooden horse and immediately sits on the soft one for a ride around the house).

Ready to Race

Elsa rolled a 5K this morning in about 28 minutes. Pretty good for a 16 month old and it would have been faster had da da not slowed her down.

Poor Girl

Elsa was really sick this week. Looking outside of herself, rare in the ill and even more rare in babies, she still found the time to lovingly put to bed her toy horse.

Infants watching too much TV?

An interesting article from the Seattle Times today reported the average amount of television that infants and toddlers watch.

"Families are so hooked on television and videos that 40 percent of 3-month-olds and 90 percent of 2-year-olds are regular watchers, according to a new, wide-ranging survey by Seattle researchers."

Your not going to believe this but, "previous research has reported that children who watch excessive amounts of TV have a higher risk of attention problems, obesity, aggressive behavior and low scores on reading and math tests."

New Sights & Sounds...

Elsa sees things that I do not see. She hears things that I do not hear. Not because they are not there, but because I have become callous to them. Birds chirp and she listens; I filter. She tells me about the birds, or the dog in the distance; I stop and give my attention. She is a delight to spend time with; her new and unfettered view of the world around her is fun to observe and participate in. I love it.
